How can we experience joy in the midst of uncertainty or suffering?

How does the woman waiting in infertility find joy in an uncertain tomorrow?

How does the woman whose son was killed in the line of duty move forward… much less, find renewed joy?

How does the woman, whose husband just up and walked out, wake up tomorrow and rebuild joy?

Even now, as I wait on medical test results for one of the dearest people in my life…

How do I, how do we, experience joy in the midst of it all?

It’s because of WHO God is that we can find joy in the midst of pain. God is able to redeem our suffering for our good and for His glory.

God is able to renew your joy…

“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” (Psalm 30:5b, ESV)

Maybe it’s the hope of knowing, that because God is the one true source of joy, joy is possible again… someday. Maybe the only glimpse of joy today will be the hope that He will restore it to us.

Hebrews says Jesus upholds the universe by the word of His power… (Hebrews 1:3, ESV)

My prayer:

Jesus, we need you to uphold us today. We need You to strengthen our hearts, to fill us with Your peace that passes understanding, and to show us the hope of renewed joy. Help us, Lord, to trust You in times of joy and times of pain. Help us to rest in Your power today. We will declare this in faith: You are enough for us. You are able. You are worthy of our trust and praise. You are the one true source of joy. Renew our joy as we wait on You, today, Jesus. For our good and ultimately for Your glory, Amen.
